Join SAWs in Celebrating BraunAbility's 50th Anniversary
BraunAbility came to SAWS with a big idea to both celebrate their 50th anniversary while also giving back to their local communities. The big idea? Build 50 ramps in 50 days.
Together, we can build freedom and independence for our neighbors with long-term disabilities who need greater accessibility.
Change a life by giving individuals with permanent and long-term physical disabilities the means to safely get outside of their own homes. Join in the celebration by helping build 50 ramps in 50 days!
In only a few hours, you can help build an ADA-compliant ramp in your community and create a more accessible home for a neighbor. No construction experience necessary.

BraunAbility was founded in 1972 as The Braun Corporation by Ralph Braun in his hometown of Winamac, Indiana. Ralph was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy when he was a young boy, and his parents were determined to give him every opportunity to live and enjoy life like any other child. He tinkered with his father and uncles in their garage and built the first motorized scooter and then the first wheelchair accessible vehicle so he could drive to and from work. Many people noticed his mobility devices and asked if one could be built for their family member, friend or neighbor who was trapped at home with their own physical disability. Ralph realized what no one else had considered – there were homes full of individuals with mobility challenges who wanted to be a part of society but just needed the right tools to make it happen. And that’s how BraunAbility was born.
Today BraunAbility is a global company with over 1400 employees and serving customers in over 70 countries. The global headquarters is in Carmel, and the manufacturing headquarters is still based in Ralph Braun’s hometown of Winamac, IN.
